My work is driven by my love of pattern, figure painting and portraiture, and spending time in wooded landscapes. I am compelled by the forms of barren tree branches against the sky, the movement of water and repeated patterns like fractals formed in ice. The process of using transparencies and overlays in my paintings combines and blurs the lines between the natural world and the human figure. Placing a face or form in such a way as to suggest it is interwoven with the environment, along with the use of patterns, allows the evocation of a sense of mystery, timelessness and memory.
