I am a printmaker, a pen-and-ink artist, and an animal lover. Relief printmaking is the opposite of drawing. In print making, I carve out what I don’t want in the final image; in drawing, I ink in what I do want. The dichotomy between these two art forms sets all the synapses in my brain to sizzling. Most of my linocuts are reduction prints. I use one block to print multiple colors, carving a bit more out of the block between each color. It’s called kamikaze printmaking, because the block is carved down to almost nothing by the end of the print run. I can’t backtrack. No do-overs. I either have to live with my mistakes or start over. Sometimes I learn to love the mistakes.
